- Kirby got four hits in his
- first major league game,
- but he went his entire
- rookie season without
- hitting a home run. Things
- changed in 1985, though. He hit 31 homers,
- becoming the first player ever with both 0-
- home run and 30-home run seasons. After
- that his career took off.
-

- in his career. In 1987, he batted .332, with
- 207 hits and eight home run-saving catches.
- In the World Series that season, he led all
- batters with 10 hits. In 1988, he batted .356

- -- becoming only the second right-
- handed batter to do so in 20 years!
